Family Therapist

Originally from rural Northern Illinois about 60 miles west of Chicago, Dr. Patrick McMillion has been a professional in the field of mental health since 2008. He started in community-based mental health and now works as an Assistant Professor and Adventure Therapy Certificate Coordinator at a university in Salt Lake City in addition to being a Family Focus Therapist with Elements. He previously served as the Clinical Director and Outcomes/Training Coordinator for a community-based Adventure Therapy program. He holds a Bachelor’s in Psychology with a Minor in Philosophy, a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision.

As a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Certified Clinical Adventure Therapist, Patrick continues to practice in, research, and train others in Adventure Based modalities of Counseling. He approaches clinical practice from an existential lens integrated with neuroscience and incorporates experiential activities throughout his work with clients. His hope for clients is that they are better able to identify the meanings and purpose they want in their lives, develop the skills and responsibility for making those happen, and to live as authentically as possible with themselves, their friends, and family.

Beyond the Counseling world, Patrick has served as a volunteer firefighter and EMT. He likes to go adventuring with his wife and two kids, explore all nature, listen to podcasts, and learn new skills. Despite all the degrees, his favorite title and job is ‘Dad.’
