Bill is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. Nature and the outdoors have always been a big part of his life. As a child he was always going on creek hikes in the woods behind his house and coming home with turtles, snakes, salamanders and frogs. As Bill grew older so did his passion for the outdoors. Bill credits a lot of his outdoor enthusiasm to his family because they never went on typical Florida beach vacations, but rather went camping and hiking in National and State Parks. Bill has been to the Smokey Mountains several times with his family, and also Yellowstone, Arches, Canyonlands and Rocky Mountain National Parks and several State parks in Michigan.
Bill attended college at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio where he majored in Outdoor Recreation and Education and also received a certificate in Environmental Studies. This major allowed Bill to explore and gain a fundamental understanding of various outdoor activities such as rock climbing, whitewater rafter, backpacking, caving and sea kayaking. Bill also learned many outdoor leadership skills and how to safely manage groups in the wilderness. Bill’s biggest outdoor passion has always been backpacking. He finds it very relaxing and peaceful to wander through the woods surviving on what he carries on his back. Bill is very excited to be working at Elements and is eager to share the wilderness and its many benefits with students.
